Oliver Levy is an independent M&A and corporate finance specialist, working in-house or as an external advisor.
Why do you do what you do?
Because I enjoy the combination of being a puzzle solver; working with people who invariably have different perspectives; am curious around learning (e.g. from varied cultures to a range of industries); and relish the ability to put my head above the parapet (i.e. take responsibility and ownership!)
What's the one thing that your work has taught you that you wish everyone PRACTISED?
Common sense married with curiosity. Yes, the majority of what we do is not rocket science but it probably needs a little bit of time to understand and thereafter master it.
What book or resource do you most commonly share, or find most inspiring, at the moment?
The Shortest History of Germany. It demonstrates convincingly how historical events can influence world events in a manner that, unless looked through the right lens, can be totally missed - hence history can be misunderstood. It makes you think how important it is to consider emotive rationale for assessing the predictions of the future.
HOW COULD THE HOT BREAKFAST COMMUNITY HELP OR SUPPORT YOU OR YOUR ORGANISATION?
Help me to meet new people who are exceptional / win new business / get more people into the Weizmann as advocates of science / ….
What's your morning routine?
In theory, a pilates class or a Regents Park run before breakfast and feeling fabulous. In reality it rather depends on how late the night before was - a good stretch-out followed by breakfast listening to Radio 4 is a common weekday morning.
