Jeremy Jacobs is a man on a mouthwatering mission. The co-founder and owner of a food manufacturing business, Raise Bakery, that he wants to become "the planet's best loved bakery", he is intent on ensuring that every human eats well.
Raise Bakery seeks to be a template for excellence in food manufacturing, challenging 'business as usual' practices and endeavouring to give more than it takes from its environment, staff and community. As Jeremy puts it, "we create spaces that leave people feeling included, equal and safe and make products that enable people to connect, celebrate and love".
Passionate about supporting fellow business owners in achieving success (whatever that looks like for them), Jeremy also has a number of voluntary roles, engaging with the local community and his consultancy, Cookie Jar Consultancy. He is also currently studying a part-time MBA at the University of Sussex.
Why do you do what you do?
I do what I do to make the biggest positive impact on the world I live in. Right now that is creating sustainable food systems and supply chains through my food manufacturing business.
I love people and the beauty of authentic, human connection. I am here to inspire people and listen to them as the powerful giants they are. We live in a world that sometimes becomes all about survival and making it. I am here to break down the barriers that get in the way of people being their true, authentic self.
That comes from my own struggles with addiction and mental health. I am an advocate for putting our physical and mental heath at the forefront of everything we do. I have come through that journey a stronger person and I exist to let people know that whatever they have done or what they are dealing with, they are a valid part of our community. Around me they are heard and seen and left feeling safe and comfortable with every part of themselves.
What's the one thing that your work has taught you that you wish everyone knew?
That no matter how alone you feel, no matter how terrible you think the world is or how close you are to giving up, there is a world of people out there that love you, will support you.
What piece of advice has most influenced or assisted you recently?
That nothing I do HAS to be done right now. People will have to wait, just set the expectations. And to remove the words, "try", "hope" and "should" from my vocabulary.
I now have pieces of note paper dotted around my house, that say "Be mindful, breathe, slow down". It's worked wonders to help me bring everything back to the present moment and centre myself.
How could The Hot Breakfast community help or support you or your organisation?
I would love support to help me to share my journey and experiences with the world to inspire and support others. I have a dream to travel the world sharing my story through public speaking. Anyone who could help me realise that dream would be great.
What's your breakfast of choice?
Scrambled eggs, bacon and avocado on sourdough toast and a cup of builders tea. Heaven.
